Ginger Lemon Turmeric Shots Recipe: A Healthy Shot of Nutrition by Donna John

Ginger Lemon Turmeric Shots Recipe: A Healthy Shot of Nutrition

Metamucil is my morning shot. Yep, I'm at that age where my "orange juice" comes in powdered form and is consumed as quickly as I can swallow it. Trying to eat healthier, I thought why not add another shot that's loaded – and I mean loaded – with health benefits? Enter this ginger lemon turmeric shot recipe.

The health benefits of turmeric, the health benefits of lemon, the health benefits of ginger and the health benefits of black pepper cannot be denied. And let's not forget the health benefits of oranges. Lots of nutritious stuff is going on in this bright yellow shot.

This low-sodium, healthy turmeric juice shot can be prepared in about 15 minutes, and that includes washing the turmeric and ginger, chopping, peeling and blending. Let the strained mixture get cold in the refrigerator before enjoying 1- to 2-ounce shots of it each day. Not only can you enjoy it as a shot, but also add it to your smoothies or protein shakes for an added boost of gluten-free nutrition.

Can't get enough turmeric? Try these healthy turmeric drinks:

Recipe Notes

  • You could pour the strained mixture into ice cube trays to freeze. Use them in smoothies or protein shakes.
  • If you don't like the taste of citrus pith (the white around the outside), be sure to remove as much as you can before blending.
  • Turmeric can stain, so if you're concerned, wear gloves.
  • If you want a little sweetness, add some honey, agave nectar or sweetener of choice.

Here's how to make it:

  1. Put all the ingredients into a blender. Blend on high for 2 minutes.
  2. Let the mixture sit in the blender for about 5 minutes to settle.
  3. Pour the mixture through a mesh strainer into a mason jar or airtight container. Discard the solids. Refrigerate until ready to drink.
