Homemade Tuscan Seasoning Blend Recipe With Flaky Sea Salt by Donna John
When I was in California visiting my daughter, I bought a Tuscan spice blend that I'm obsessed with. I use it on everything from crispy Italian potatoes to Italian pork ribs to cucumber salad. What I love about the dried spice seasoning is that there is salt in the mix, so I don't have to add additional salt to dishes when I use it. This is my homemade version of this Tuscan spice blend.
The homemade Tuscan seasoning blend is a combination of flaky sea salt, dried basil, dried rosemary, dried oregano, dried thyme, garlic powder and black pepper. If you're a fan of fennel seed, you can add that to the mix. If you like a spicier seasoning, add in some crushed red pepper flakes.
Store the dried Tuscan blend in an airtight container in the pantry for up to six months. Use it on any recipe that calls for Italian seasoning, Tuscan seasoning or a combination or dried oregano and dried basil. Sprinkle it on fish, chicken, potatoes or vegetables. Stir it into mayonnaise or yogurt and thin with a little milk or buttermilk for a creamy Italian dressing, or whisk it with olive and vinegar for an Italian vinaigrette. Just remember there is salt in the mix, so adjust any additional salt accordingly. How will you use it?
