Homemade Herbes de Provence Recipe: An Aromatic Spice Blend From France

If you've seen recipes calling for herbes de provence but aren't sure what it is, don't stress! Herbes de provence is a French spice blend made with herbs from the Provence region. The main players in the spice blend are thyme, oregano, savory and rosemary, but other herbs are singing in the background. Most grocery stores carry herbes de provence on their spice aisle, but if you can't find it, the spice mix is easy to make at home.

This is a guide for creating your own homemade herbes de provence. You can adjust the amounts to suit your personal tastes. Love lavender? Add more! Not a big fan of rosemary? Add less! This spice blend calls for dried basil, fennel seed, marjoram, dried oregano, dried thyme, dried lavender, dried rosemary and dried savory. Again, omit and adjust until you create the perfect spice blend for you.

Use this DIY herbes de provence in any recipe calling for the spice. It's also wonderful on eggs, chicken, beef, fish and vegetables, or stirred into chicken salad, tuna salad, egg salad or hummus. Sprinkle it on pizza, pasta or sandwiches. The possibilities are really endless.
