Who I Am? Stepping Out of Our Defined Roles in Life & Discovering Who We Really Are by Annie Martin
Who am I?
I am a chameleon, putting on the appropriate mask and acting to the best of my ability to be whomever the situation before me calls for. At my core, I have traits and values that are undeniably “me” – humor, inappropriate comments, a leader, a coach, a supportive friend, a good daughter and a partner who loves to share adventure. I am also broken and riding the cusp of change from being who I am supposed to be, to who I want to be.
By today’s American definition, I am successful. I have a good job making good money. I own a home in a trendy city neighborhood. I have friends, I travel and, although we are separated, I have a loving and supportive wife. Throw in my goofy dog and sassy cat and I have it all. However, I personally don’t feel successful. I feel that I want something new that is mine to create, and mold and nurture.
Who am I?
I am someone who aced the “shoulds” but fears the “wants.” I want my own business. I have many ideas that are genuinely me, and that I truly believe will thrive, but fear of failure and of disrupting the status quo keep me from shedding my disguise and going for it.
Who am I?
I am passion.
I am drive.
I am love.
I am laughter.
I am a straight shooter.
I am a badass.
I am terrified.
I am trustworthy.
I am able to motivate and inspire.
I am smart.
I am quick witted.
I am quick tempered.
I am quick to call out bullshit.
I am afraid of what’s behind my masks.
I am an alcoholic.
I am depressed.
I am my trauma.
I am so many things, good and bad, that I keep bottled up inside. There is infinitely more to learn about myself. Untapped ability to discover and cultivate, failure to experience – if I will only get out of my own way.
Who am I? I don’t yet know, but I believe I am ready to find out.
