When I saw this easy technique to make a pumpkin-shaped loaf of sourdough bread, I just had to share. All you will need is sourdough, some cooking string and a cinnamon stick for this fun fall presentation.

Recipe Notes
- Try this on your favorite type of homemade bread.
Here's how to make it:
- Take your fresh dough ready to bake and put it into a bowl or a basket. Cut three long pieces of kitchen string and place across dough. Make pie shapes by crossing the strings and letting them hang about 18 inches past the edge of the bowl.
- Place a sheet of parchment and a hard flat surface like a cutting board on top of the dough, hold tightly together and flip the dough over onto the parchment. Remove your bowl or basket.
- Remove the board and start tying the string together, pulling the dough toward the center.
- Repeat with the other strings and tie them off in the center of the dough. Cut the strings down. If desired you can carve lines in your dough to simulate pumpkin skin.
- Bake as usual.
- Remove from oven to cool. Remove strings (from the bottom is easiest).
- Add a cinnamon stick to make the "stem."
