Thanksgiving Margarita Recipe: A Cocktail Recipe Full of Fall Flavors

If you know me or my writing, you know that I am obsessed with fall. It’s been my favorite season since I was a kid and I have grown up to love all-the-fall-things: the colors and clothes, the pumpkin patches and apple orchards, the cozy fires and comfort food and more. I have several favorite fall comfort food recipes. Looking ahead to the holidays, though, I’ve been thinking about fall cocktails. I feel like most seasons and holidays have signature drinks but what about Thanksgiving? I think it deserves its own drink.

How about a Thanksgiving margarita?! A traditional margarita contains tequila, orange liqueur and lime juice. This unique fall-themed cocktail has all three plus some additional fall flavors. It’s sweet yet the cinnamon adds a bit of a spicy kick. And it smells like fall! You can either make an individual drink or simply multiple the ingredients by four and make a margarita pitcher for sharing at your next party or holiday gathering. Cheers!

Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 1 (multiply ingredients by 4 for a pitcher)

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces 100% apple cider
  • 2 ounces pear juice
  • 1 1/2 ounces gold tequila (I suggest a tequila you enjoy on its own)
  • 1 ounce Grand Mariner
  • ice
  • salt (for glass)
  • lime
  • cinnamon sticks, for garnish
  • apple slices, for garnish

Here's how to make it:

  1. Pour salt (about a 1/4-inch layer) on a small plate. Run a lime wedge along the rim of your cocktail glass, turn the glass upside down and carefully press the rim into salt.
  2. Add ice to a glass until it is about 3/4 of the way full. Then squeeze the rest of the lime wedge over the ice.
  3. Add ice to a cocktail shaker. Then add all liquid ingredients to the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 to 20 seconds.
  4. Strain ice and pour your Thanksgiving margarita into prepared glass. Garnish with apple slices and a whole cinnamon stick.

Note: When making a pitcher: To avoid the margarita getting watered down, don’t put ice in the pitcher itself. Put it in the individual glasses directly and pour the cocktail over the ice.
