Summer is here and I’m so excited to make fresh meals from all the wonderful produce available at the farmers market and my local store. I just made this beautiful nectarine, tomato and corn salad recipe and topped it with this fantastic balsamic vinaigrette dressing that is now stored in my fridge for all my summer salads or for a nice twist for a caprese salad!
Using a really good balsamic will make this salad dressing one you will want to make over and over. The homemade balsamic salad dressing recipe is slightly sweet and oh, so silky smooth. I made mine with regular balsamic, but a white balsamic will make the dressing invisible if you prefer that. Making your own salad dressing is so easy and so much healthier than store-bought, which are often very high in sugar and sodium.
You only need four simple ingredients for this vinaigrette recipe. Here is your shopping list: canola oil, balsamic vinegar, honey and either minced red onion or shallots. The ingredients are whisked or shaken together, seasoned with salt and black pepper and then drizzled over whatever salad you'd like. So simple!

Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 8 (makes about 1 cup)
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup canola oil
- 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar (you could use white balsamic vinegar)
- 1 - 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons minced red onion or 1 minced shallot
Here's how to make it:
- Put all the ingredients into a bowl or into a mason jar or salad dressing cruet. Season with a pinch of salt and black pepper. (Depending on your balsamic, you may want to add more honey to make it sweeter.)
- Shake or whisk to combine. This dressing will keep in the fridge in a tightly sealed jar for a week so feel free to make it ahead.
