40-Minute Dinner Rolls Recipe: Fresh Homemade Rolls In No Time

These aromatic dinner rolls are so easy and delicious you might find yourself making them multiple times a week! I made these soft homemade rolls and they made the house smell great, and were so simple. Everyone in the family loved this quick and easy dinner roll recipe.

To make these hot and fresh dinner rolls you will need to gather the following ingredients: vegetable oil, granulated sugar, active dry yeast, an egg, butter, salt, all-purpose flour and milk. Prep is quick and easy and the rolls only need to rise for about 20 minutes before baking. They bake up in about 10 to 12 minutes in the oven.

Serve these fresh dinner rolls as a side dish with your favorite meal. If there are any leftovers, they are wonderful the next day with butter and jam, jelly or fruit preserves for breakfast

Recipe Notes

  • If you are using a stand mixer you can use that bowl for the yeast mixture for less cleaning.
  • This is not instant yeast and make sure it isn't expired. There will be no bubbling if the yeast isn't active
  • I used 3 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour for this recipe.

Here's how to make it:

  1. Combine these ingredients in order to a large bowl: warm water, oil, sugar and yeast. Set aside until the mixture becomes bubbly, about 8 to 10 minutes. Add the egg, melted butter and salt. Stir to combine. If you are adding additional herbs and spices add them to the liquid mixture now.
  2. Add the flour to the liquid mixture, 1 cup at a time, and mix well by hand or by using a stand mixer. The dough shouldn't be sticky so keep adding flour until that happens. Knead with the stand mixer for 5 minutes or by hand for 10 minutes.
  3. In a greased 13x9-inch baking pan, divide the dough into 15 rolls. Cover with parchment paper and a kitchen towel. Let the rolls rise for 20 minutes. Brush rolls with milk.
  4. Bake in the preheated 400-degree F oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until they are brown on top.
