Easy Cinnamon Peaches Recipe Is Like a Healthier Bowl of Peach Pie by Elisa Schmitz

Easy Cinnamon Peaches Recipe Is Like a Healthier Bowl of Peach Pie

Although autumn means apple season, for me, it also means the last of peach season. Recently, I was lucky to grab the last of the fresh peaches at my local farmers market. Peaches are not only delicious, but also nutritious (check out the health benefits of peaches). So, with ripe peaches in hand, I got to work on making this easy cinnamon peaches recipe.

Inspired by my easy cinnamon apples recipe, these tender cinnamon peaches taste like a healthier bowl of peach pie – without all the work. In fact, you need only six ingredients and just about 15 minutes to make this low-sodium fruit recipe. Seriously! Here's your gluten-free shopping list: peaches, water, honey, cinnamon, vanilla extract and fresh lemon juice. You combine the ingredients in a saucepot and simmer until soft. So easy!

Serve this luscious peach compote recipe as a snack any time of day, or for dessert in a bowl with whipped cream, or on top of vanilla ice cream, or as a side dish for breakfast or dinner (they go great with pork or chicken). I served them on top of our oatmeal for a sweet brunch treat. Delicious!

Recipe Notes

  • I used fresh peaches, but you can use frozen peaches in this recipe.
  • I left the skin on the peaches, but you can peel them if you prefer.
  • You can substitute maple syrup for honey, if preferred.
  • I prefer to squeeze my own fresh lemon juice, but you can use bottled in a pinch.
  • You can add a dash of sea salt to the mixture when cooking, if desired.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in the microwave.

Here's how to make it:

  1. In a saucepot over medium heat, add the water and the peaches and stir to combine.
  2. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 3 minutes until water starts to absorb and peaches start to soften. (When not stirring, make sure that the pot is covered.)
  3. Add honey, cinnamon, vanilla and lemon juice to the pot. Stir to combine.
  4. Cook for about 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until peaches reach your desired level of softness.
  5. Remove from heat. Serve immediately or store in refrigerator until ready to serve.

I'll be so sad when the fresh peaches are all gone. I'm going to freeze some of this compote so I have it during the cold-weather months!
