Healthier Chocolate Brownies Recipe With Ripe Bananas & Peanut Butter

I've made three versions of brownies this past week and this one wins for being healthier and tasting great! I even got a big thumbs up from my friend's 10-year-old. What is amazing is that you don't have to tell anyone these brownies are healthier because they just taste good. Keep these moist, chocolatey brownies around so you can enjoy them anytime.

To make this delicious chocolate brownie recipe you will need a few simple ingredients you may already have in the house. Here is your list of ingredients to gather: flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, ripe bananas, peanut butter, eggs, maple syrup and vanilla extract. To add even more chocolate goodness, you can also add some semisweet chocolate chips. For some crunch, grab some walnuts or pecans.

Serve these easy brownies for dessert or a sweet, indulgent snack during the day. They are amazing served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (there are sugar-free ice cream varieties available now to keep it on the healthier side!).

Recipe Notes

  • You can use any kind of flour – oat, gluten-free or whole wheat.
  • You want to have ripe bananas, as they are sweeter and mash into recipe best.
  • You can use another nut butter, if preferred, like almond butter, walnut butter, cashew butter or mixed nut butter.
  • Stir some chopped walnuts or pecans into the batter for a little crunch.

 Here's how to make it:

  1. Line an 8x8-inch baking dish with a piece of parchment paper with some overhang on the sides. (Don't worry too much about this step. I crease the corner to get it to sit, but the weight of the batter will hold the paper down.) Place mashed bananas in a mixing bowl, making sure they are no big chunks, and then add the rest of the wet ingredients.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all the dry ingredients.
  3. Gently stir the wet ingredients into the dry mixture.
  4. If desired, fold in the chocolate chips and/or nuts.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  6. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for 20 to 25 minutes. Remove the brownies from the oven. Cool for about an hour for the best cut (if you can resist).
