Homemade Berry Slushie Recipe: Beat the Summer Heat in Just 5 Minutes

Summer has arrived and with it the need to cool down and stay hydrated. You can easily do that with this delicious low-sugar icy slushie drink recipe that satisfies kids and adults alike. If you love smoothies, you have got to try this recipe!

This homemade berry slushie was made with fresh strawberriessimple syrup, orange juice, vanilla extract and ice. Delicious! You can use whatever fruit you like for this fruity summer beverage. Experiment and find out what flavor combinations you like the best.

Did you know strawberry stems are good for you? According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, strawberry leaves are high in vitamin C, iron and calcium, as well as contain tannins, which helps with digestion, nausea and stomach cramps. Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh or frozen fruit (strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, mango, peaches, nectarines, pineapple, etc.)
  • 1/2 - 1 tablespoon sweetener (agave nectar, honeysimple syrup, granulated sugar or your favorite sweetener)
  • juice from 1/2 orange (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
  • ice
  • fresh mint, for serving (optional)

  • If you are using frozen fruit, you will need less ice.
  • Add some tequila or rum to make this an adults-only drink. 

Here's how to make it: 

  1. Combine all ingredients except the ice into a blender. Blend until smooth. (You might need to add a bit of water to get it started.)
  2. Add ice to achieve just the right consistency that you prefer.
  3. Pour into glasses and top with mint, if desired.
