Best Pan-Seared Halloumi Cheese Recipe: Healthy Mediterranean Eating Has Never Tasted So Good

Halloumi is a semi-hard, unripe cheese made from sheep or goat milk (occasionally it is made from cow's milk). Halloumi is high in protein, calcium and other nutrients. It has a high melting point, so it can be pan seared, fried or grilled. This easy pan-seared halloumi recipe is a delicious appetizer, meat substitute or can be used in salads or buddha bowls. To add more flavor, drizzle with a balsamic reduction or our lemon vinaigrette, rosemary lemon garlic vinaigrette or Greek vinaigrette.

Cuisine: Mediterranean (Cyprus)
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes

Here's how to make it:

  1. Dry the halloumi on paper towels. Brush both sides of the cheese with the olive oil. Season with black pepper and the dried seasoning of choice, to taste.
  2. Heat a sauté pan over medium heat. Add the cheese and cook until it starts to brown, about 1 to 2 minutes per side.
