You Matter: How Connection Fulfills Our Soul’s Biggest Yearning by Michelle Nelson-Schmidt

Our biggest yearning in life is not fame, riches or a lavish lifestyle. It is far simpler. We yearn to know we matter.
Our biggest fear is not failure, it is the fear that we make no difference for being here on this planet circling the sun – that no one cares we exist.
For the record? You matter. Vitally. Importantly. Absolutely. This whole thing works because you, yes you, are here.
But, in order to truly understand that, feel that, we must have connection. We must connect with our fellow humans in order to feel the truth of life. When we look another human being in the eye and smile, even in that tiny, brief connection, we’re really saying, “I see you. You exist. You matter to me.”
Whether it’s in person, online, text or phone, the connections we make in this life are the cravings of our soul – and absolutely necessary. Without them? We forget who we are.
Don’t underestimate how much you matter to others in this life. More importantly, don’t underestimate the value of letting someone else know how much they matter. Making another soul feel seen is no small act – it is everything.
