Never cooked with kefir before? Kefir is a fermented milk drink made with cow, goat or sheep milk. Historians believe that kefir originated "centuries ago in the Caucasus Mountains in Eastern Europe near present-day Turkey. The word kefir is derived from the Turkish word 'keif,' which translates to 'good feeling.'" Because it is fermented, kefir is a popular drink for gut health. Kefir is a better probiotic food choice than yogurt! And there are many more health benefits of kefir.
This homemade, gluten-free kefir ranch dressing is wonderful on top of a spicy honey chickpea bowl or any other salad or vegetables. The low-sodium salad dressing is light and refreshing! This version is slightly thinner than traditional ranch dressings, but so delicious you might never go back!

Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 6 (makes about 1 1/2 cups)
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk plain kefir
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh or dried dill
- 1/2 teaspoon parsley flakes or dried Italian seasoning

Here's how to make it:
- Combine all the ingredients in a container with a lid. (Squeeze your own fresh lemon juice because fresh is always best! Feel free to change up the herbs and seasonings to fit your family's tastes. Small mason jars work great for dressings! If you don't have a salad dressing cruet or mason jar, whisk the ingredients together in a mixing bowl. You can store the salad dressing in an airtight container.)
- Shake thoroughly. Keep covered in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
