I've been making a lot of recipes using hoisin sauce lately, for one very good reason: hoisin is delicious! Hoisin is a rich sauce that originates in Asia and is prominent in Cantonese food. The thick sauce is both sweet and savory and, when you combine hoisin with honey and garlic, you get an incredible flavor that makes your mouth water. Plus, the steak turns out so tender and juicy.

To make this delicious grilled steak recipe for dinner, here are the ingredients you'll need to gather: filet mignon steak, hoisin sauce (regular or gluten-free sauce), honey and minced garlic. The steak is topped with the sauce for about 20 minutes at room temperature before being grilled to your desired doneness. • Rare: 5 minutes on side one, 3 minutes on side two (about 120 to 130 degrees F internal temperature)
• Medium Rare: 5 minutes on side one, 4 to 5 minutes on side two (about 130 to 140 degrees F internal temperature)
• Medium: 6 minutes on side one, 4 to 5 minutes on side two (about 140 to 150 degrees F internal temperature)
• Well Done: 8 minutes on side one, 6 to 7 minutes on side two (about 160 to 170 degrees F internal temperature)

Ingredients

• 4 filet mignon steaks (about 1 1/2 pounds)
• 1/4 cup hoisin sauce (regular or gluten-free hoisin)
• 2 tablespoons honey
• 4 teaspoons garlic, minced
• salt and black pepper, to taste (optional, but I used about a teaspoon of each)

Here's how to make it:

1. Season the steak on both sides with salt and black pepper, to taste. In a medium mixing bowl, add the hoisin sauce, honey and minced garlic. Stir to combine. Spread the sauce over the steaks and allow them to marinate for about 20 minutes at room temperature.
2. When almost ready to cook, preheat the grill to 450 degrees F, then reduce it to medium heat prior to cooking. Grill the steaks until they reach your desired doneness. Beef is considered safely done when it reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees F on a food thermometer.
3. Let the steaks rest at least minutes before slicing and serving. Store leftover steak in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat in the microwave.
