Peanut butter, bananas and chocolate? Yes, please! These favorite flavors come together to create magic in this peanut butter banana brownies recipe. If you love rich and fudgy desserts with a hint of peanut butter banana flavor, then I hope you'll agree that these peanut butter banana brownies are beyond delicious.
When it comes to snacks and desserts, it's fun to see if you can sneak in some nutrition without sacrificing taste. This easy one-bowl brownies recipe fits the bill. The brownies pack some protein, thanks to the peanut butter (check out the health benefits of peanut butter and the health benefits of protein). They offer the health benefits of bananas and the health benefits of cocoa, too. I also love that the additional sweetener is maple syrup, not granulated sugar.
These decadent high-protein brownies are very easy to prepare and come together quickly – you'll only need about half an hour! Here are the nine ingredients you'll need to gather: overripe bananas, peanut butter, maple syrup, an egg, unsweetened cocoa powder, vanilla extract, baking soda, flour (all-purpose or gluten-free) and chocolate chips. The pinch of salt and chopped walnuts are optional. You mix up the batter in one bowl then bake them up into pure brownie magic.
These extra special peanut butter banana brownies are perfect as an energizing snack any time of day and the perfect dessert with a cup of coffee or tea in the evening. We wouldn't blame you if you even grabbed a couple as a grab-and-go breakfast as you're running out the door!

Total Time: 27 to 32 minutes

Ingredients
- 3 small overripe bananas, mashed
- 1 cup peanut butter, at room temperature (crunchy or creamy, not the all-natural kind)
- 1/3 cup real maple syrup (or honey)
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/3 cup flour (all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour)
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips, plus additional for top, if desired (or milk chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips)
- pinch of salt (optional)
- 1/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Here's how to make it:
- In a large mixing bowl, add the mashed bananas, peanut butter, maple syrup, egg, vanilla, cocoa powder, baking soda, flour and pinch of salt, if using. Stir to combine. Fold in the chocolate chips, and the walnuts, if using. (To make these brownies gluten-free, use gluten-free flour. You could use almond butter instead of peanut butter, and honey instead of maple syrup.)
- Evenly spread the batter into an 8x8-inch baking pan that's been sprayed with cooking spray or lined with parchment paper.
- Top with additional chocolate chips, if desired.
- Bake in a an oven that's been preheated to 325 degrees F until cooked through, about 20 to 25 minutes. Brownies should pass the toothpick test.
- Allow brownies to cool in the pan for about 20 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving. Store leftover brownies in an airtight container.
