Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Servings: 9
Ingredients
- 4 cups blackberries or other fruit, washed
- juice from 1/2 lemon
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract or vanilla extract
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg, beaten
- 6 tablespoons butter, melted
Recipe Notes
- You can use just about any fruit or berry in this recipe.
- You can substitute the all-purpose flour for gluten-free flour. I used 1:1 gluten-free flour.
- If this is too sweet, decrease the sugar by 1/4 cup to get to the level of sweetness you prefer.
Here's how to make it:
- Place blackberries in the bottom of a buttered 8x8-inch or 13x9-inch baking pan. Add the lemon juice and vanilla extract. Toss to coat.
- In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the flour, sugar and salt with a fork.
- Blend the beaten egg and melted butter with the flour mixture. It may be a bit crumbly and that is fine.
- Spoon the flour mixture over the berries.
- Bake in a preheated 425-degree F oven for about 25 minutes. The top should be golden brown and the berry mixture bubbly. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream, if desired, and enjoy!
