You don't need many ingredients to make this southern chocolate cobbler recipe. Here is your simple shopping list: butter, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, self-rising flour, milk, vanilla extract and water. The sinfully rich and decadent chocolate cobbler is made like a dump cake; you don't stir.

Ingredients
Batter
- 1 stick butter (1/2 cup), melted
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
Topping
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups boiling water
Here's how to make it:
- Pour the melted butter into a 13x9-inch baking pan.
- Combine the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, flour, milk and vanilla in a bowl. Mix well. Dollop the mixture on top of the melted butter. Do not stir! Let the cobbler do its magic in the oven.
- In another bowl, combine the 2 cups of granulated sugar and 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder. Sprinkle the mixture over the batter.
- Carefully pour the boiling water over the top. Do not stir!
- Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 35 to 40 minutes or until the top has set. Store any leftovers in an airtight container. Reheat in the microwave.
