Have I told you how much I love making homemade whipped cream? I know I have, but I want to tell you again because making homemade whipped cream recipes is not only delicious but also super fun! I think it's the combination of few ingredients, quick and delish that does it for me.

This indulgent three-ingredient chocolate whipped cream recipe is my latest homemade whipped cream recipe and, I gotta tell ya, it may be my husband's favorite. It takes a lot to knock my bourbon whipped cream recipe off its throne but, because he is a chocoholic, this chocolate whipped cream recipe had him in heaven. In fact, he said it is "to die for!"

This decadent dessert recipe has all the chocolate flavor you crave combined with the creamy richness of whipped cream. With only three ingredients, it's ready to serve in just five minutes!

This gluten-free whipped cream treat is so simple to make – all you need is heavy whipping cream, unsweetened cocoa powder and powdered sugar. If you want a little extra flavor, you can add a teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional). Using an electric mixer, you beat the ingredients until stiff peaks form. The whole process takes only about five minutes!

I served this low-sodium whipped cream as a topping for brownies and cookies and on top of hot chocolate (yes, the more chocolate, the better!) and it was amazing. You also can use it as frosting for cakes and cupcakes. But, it also stands alone as its own dessert, tasting a lot like chocolate mousse. YUM!

  • You can use more or less cocoa powder, depending on how chocolatey you want the whipped cream to be.
  • I used an electric mixer, but you could try to make it without one by using a whisk and beating the ingredients rapidly until peaks form.
  • I used regular heavy whipping cream, but you could try this recipe with non-dairy whipping cream, too. When I've tried it in the past, the peaks did not get as stiff but it was still delicious.
  • You can sprinkle a bit of cocoa powder or cinnamon over the whipped cream as a garnish, if desired.
  • You can easily double this recipe and store it in the refrigerator until you're ready to use it.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You also can freeze it.

Here's how to make it:

  1. To the bowl of your electric mixer, add the heavy whipping cream, unsweetened cocoa powder and powdered sugar (and vanilla extract, if using).
  2. Beat on medium to high speed until stiff peaks form, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Serve over your favorite desserts or on its own with a spoon. Top with a sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon, if desired.
