We cannot imagine the Amish ever being lazy. But when they're taking it easy – according to many Amish cookbooks – they make this lazy day tender beef roast recipe

With just five ingredients and a gravy that makes itself, you could pull off this dinner recipe even on a busy day. So easy and delicious!

Cuisine: American

Total Time: 1 hour and 35 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds round steak, cut into cubes
  • 2 slices bread, crumbled
  • 1/4 cup sliced celery
  • 1 tablespoon minute tapioca
  • 1 onion, sliced

Amazing recipe for fall and winter!

The Amish lazy day roast looks yummy but doesn’t say how much boiling water to use.
Can someone please let me know. Thanks
Donna John
Christina DaCruz None of the Amish cookbooks specify how much water. You just need enough to cover and give it enough liquid to make a gravy. So I'd say not more than 1 cup. You can always add more, if needed, during cooking time or at the end.

I would probably do this in a crock pot and use beef broth instead of water. I have stew mean but it's sirloin. We made the round steak from our half cow into hamburger.
