Recipe Notes
- If you're not a fan of Italian sausage, you could double the ground meat instead.
- Instead of ground beef, you could use ground chicken, pork or turkey.
- Instead of cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup, you also could use cream of celery or cream of broccoli soup.
- Instead of chicken broth, you also could use vegetable, turkey or beef broth.
- To reduce sodium, use low-sodium soups and broth.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat in the microwave or oven.
Here's how to make it:
- Cook the ground beef and sausage in a large skillet or saucepan, breaking up the meat as it cooks, until cooked through and browned. Remove to a plate.
- To the same skillet, add the onions and celery. Cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Put the meat back into the pan.
- Add the chicken broth, both soups, garlic powder and rice. Season with salt and pepper, if desired. Mix well.
- Pour into a 13x9-inch baking pan. Cover with aluminum foil.
- Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 35 to 40 minutes. Uncover and bake about 10 to 15 minutes more.

I subbed brown rice because its glycemic index is significantly better than white rice. I used a quick rice tho, which I didn’t think about until after I bought a package of rice which takes almost an hour to cook. I know this dish cooks for an hour, but will it turn out ok if I use the rice’s interchangeably and follow the directions the same way?
