I could go on, but we'll stop there. After making my baked barbecue chicken recipe with peach bourbon barbecue sauce, the BBQ sauce was so good it stole the spotlight from the juicy chicken. This easy homemade southern barbecue sauce recipe is now a staple in my fridge, and has been used on so many different things. You've gotta try it!

This easy barbecue sauce recipe is tomato based (aka ketchup) and gets its sweetness not from fresh peaches, but peach preserves. The other ingredients balance out the sweetness and combine to make a fantastic barbecue sauce perfect for beef, pork (think grilled pork chops) or chicken.

You only need a few simple ingredients from your fridge and pantry to make this southern recipe. Here is your short shopping list for this sauce recipe: ketchup, brown sugar, bourbon, peach preserves, apple cider vinegar (read about the health benefits of apple cider vinegar), Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder and Liquid Smoke. The ingredients cook up in a saucepot in about three minutes on the stovetop.

Ingredients

• 1 cup ketchup
• 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
• 1/2 cup bourbon
• 1/3 cup peach preserves
• 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
• 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
• 1 teaspoon mustard powder
• 1/2 teaspoon Liquid Smoke

Here's how to make it: 

1. Put all the ingredients into a small saucepot. Bring to a simmer. 
2. Reduce heat and gently simmer for 2 to 3 minutes. Use as desired. Store the barbecue sauce in an airtight container or mason jar in the fridge.
