Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 20 minutes plus 30 minutes to chill
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour and 20 minutes
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 1 sheet (half a 17.3 ounce package) frozen puff pastry dough, thawed
- 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced thinly (about 1/4-inch thick)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
Here’s how to make it:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. On a lightly floured surface, roll out puff pastry to about 1/16-inch thickness. Cut dough into four 6-inch rounds. Transfer rounds to the baking sheet and use a fork to prick dough all over. Chill for 15 minutes or more.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Arrange apple slices on dough rounds. Fold dough up creating a border around the apples. Chill for 30 minutes. (Granny Smith work well because they don't get mushy when baked, but you can use your favorite apples. Add some ground cinnamon for extra flavor.)
- Brush apples with butter and then sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake tarts until apples are tender and pastry is crisp, approximately 30 to 35 minutes. Store any leftover tart in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat in the microwave.
