Recipe Notes

  • Granny Smith work well because they don't get mushy when baked, but you can use your favorite apples.
  • Add some ground cinnamon for extra flavor.
  • Thaw the puff pastry dough according to package directions.

Here’s how to make it:

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. On a lightly floured surface, roll out puff pastry to about 1/16-inch thickness. Cut dough into four 6-inch rounds. Transfer rounds to the baking sheet and use a fork to prick dough all over. Chill for 15 minutes or more.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Arrange apple slices on dough rounds. Fold dough up creating a border around the apples. Chill for 30 minutes.
  3. Brush apples with butter and then sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake tarts until apples are tender and pastry is crisp, approximately 30 to 35 minutes.
