Sitting upright may actually improve depressive symptoms. That is the conclusion of a study by researchers at the University of Auckland, published in the Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry. Adopting an upright posture leads to:

  • increased self-esteem
  • reduced fatigue
  • an increase in enthusiasm
  • more energy

Previous studies had shown that changing posture enhanced mood and self-esteem in healthy individuals. This study shows that it can benefit anyone, even those living with depression. So how can we practice good posture?

  1. Straighten your back.
  2. Drop your shoulders.
  3. Slightly raise your chin.

Practice this every day, especially when you are feeling low, and you will start to feel the difference. Learn more about this study here!
