I tried this fruit popovers recipe that went viral on TikTok. The pastry recipe is so easy, and other than a frozen puff pastry everything else should be easily found in your kitchen. You'll impress your family and feed them a beautiful and not-too-sweet dessert in just 30 minutes!

The shopping list for this fruit popovers recipe is short and sweet: puff pastry, your desired fillings, honey and an egg for an egg wash. I decided to go sweet and used mango, peaches, strawberries, apple and goat cheese. The fillings are placed on a baking sheet first, then covered with the puff pastry, creating an upside-down dessert. So easy and fun!

If you want a savory upside-down puff pastry appetizer, use charcuterie meats, ham, cheese, pepperoni or even vegetables. Enjoy this puff pastry dessert as-is or with a dollop of whipped cream or even vanilla ice cream on top.

Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 to 20 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 1 box puff pastry, defrosted if frozen
  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 - 2 cups desired fillings
  • 1 egg, beaten with a fork for egg wash

Here's how to make it:

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Prep your toppings, such as thinly sliced fruits like apples, apricots and mangos, thinly sliced meats such as prosciutto or bacon, and/or cheese like sliced brie or goat cheese.
  2. Cut one package of puff pastry sheets into six rectangles (three per sheet).
  3. Drizzle honey on the baking sheet, spacing out honey drizzles to be at the center of each rectangle of puff pastry.
  4. Place the toppings on the drizzles of honey.
  5. Press a rectangle of puff pastry on top.
  6. Brush with the egg wash.
  7. Bake in a preheated 375-degree oven for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the puff pastry is cooked and golden brown on top.
  8. Remove from the oven and rest for a few minutes before removing the pastries from the sheet and turning over to expose the fillings.
