Easy Danish Rice Pudding Recipe (Risengrød) Is a Cinnamon Lover's Dream Desserts

Risengrød (rice pudding) is a traditional dish in Denmark, where it is served throughout December, especially around Christmas. We think this Danish rice pudding recipe is too good to just eat in December. 

Creamy and loaded with cinnamon, this easy rice pudding recipe may be your family's new favorite dessert or breakfast all year long.

  • 1 cup short-grain rice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt 
  • 4 cups milk

Topping

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • butter, for serving 

Here's how to make it: 

  • Put the rice, water and salt into a saucepot. Let it boil for 2 minutes.
  • Add the milk. Cover and let simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring often. 
  • While the rice simmers, combine the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.  
  • Spoon the pudding into bowls and top with a pat of butter and a generous amount of cinnamon sugar.
