Confession: green bean casserole is my least favorite on the Thanksgiving dinner table. Of course I like it, but the casserole is a bit boring to me. (I did fancy the traditional side dish up a couple years with my ultimate green bean casserole and creamy Creole green bean casserole recipes.) A friend of mine told me how her family makes green bean casserole – with condensed cheddar cheese soup and grated cheddar – and my mind is changed a bit about this green bean recipe.
This green bean casserole recipe is creamy and cheesy. Really cheesy! This shortcut recipe only requires five simple ingredients. Here is your short shopping list for this vegetable casserole recipe: green beans (canned are traditional but you can used fresh that have been precooked), a can of condensed cheddar cheese soup, milk, cheddar cheese and a can of french fried onions. Ingredients
- 10 ounces (1 can) cheddar cheese soup
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 cups cheddar cheese, grated (divided)
- 29 ounces (2 cans) green beans, drained, or 4 cups fresh green beans, cooked
- 1 cup french fried onions
Here's how to make it:
- Stir together the soup, milk and 1 1/2 cups of the cheese. Season with black pepper, if desired.
- Add the green beans and french fried onions. Stir to combine. (You could use frozen green beans. Be sure to thaw them first.)
- Pour the mixture into a baking dish. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for 30 minutes.
- Top with the remaining cheese and bake about 5 minutes more. (You could add more french fried onions to the top, if desired.) Serve. Store the casserole covered in the fridge and reheat in the microwave.
