To be honest, this liquid steak marinade is tied for my favorite steak marinade recipe ever. This amazing steakhouse marinade is based on John Eckel's steak marinade recipe that would be $100 in a steakhouse. The easy recipe was unmatched in my house until I made a slightly different variation of it because my of need-to-go-to-the-store-desperately pantry. Let's just say I now have two favorite beef marinades.
Instead of bourbon, I used an apple cider-flavored whiskey. That, along with a few other simple tweaks, resulted in a sweet, tangy, perfectly balanced steak marinade that imparted so much flavor into the boneless ribeye I had out for dinner. My husband and I both agree this is our favorite way to prepare steaks for the grill.
Here is what you'll need to try this liquid steak marinade for yourself: extra-virgin olive oi, Dijon mustard, apple cider whiskey, soy sauce, red wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar (I used dark brown sugar), steak sauce, garlic powder, kosher salt and black pepper. Mix all the ingredients together and then add your steak. Let the steak soak in the marinade as long as you can, up to overnight. I like to mix up the marinade in the morning and get the steak marinating in the fridge all day to enjoy that evening for dinner.
Use this blue ribbon (for me!) steakhouse steak marinade on ribeye steaks, sirloin, tenderloin, New York strip, hanger steaks, T-bone, flank steak or porterhouse steaks. Another big thanks to John Eckels for the inspiration.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 2
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1/4 cup apple cider whiskey
- 2 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce (I used low-sodium soy sauce)
- 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
- 1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/8 cup dark brown sugar (or light brown sugar)
- 1 tablespoon A-1 Steak Sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 tablespoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, to taste
Here's how to make it:
- Combine all the ingredients in a zipper food storage bag or shallow baking dish. (If you don't have apple cider whiskey, use regular whiskey or bourbon. Or try another flavor that sounds good to you.)
- Add your steak and let it marinade for at least 3 hours and up to overnight. (The recipe makes enough marinade for up to two steaks. The recipe can easily be doubled.)
- Grill as desired. (You can make the marinade ahead of time and store it in an airtight container in the fridge.)
