Milo's Famous Sweet Tea Pie Recipe Is a Sweet Slice of the South

Sweet tea is a staple in the south. If you have visions of families sitting on porch swings sippin' on a glasses of sweet tea, you're not far off. But now we not only sip our sweet tea but eat it, too. This famous sweet tea pie recipe is the perfect example of getting sweet tea out of the glass and onto a fork.

This sweet tea pie is wonderful eaten after dinner with a cup of coffee. To make this southern pie recipe you will need sweet tea, granulated sugar, flour, cornmeal, salt, eggs, butter, lemons for juicing and zesting, powdered sugar and a ready made pie crust.

This dessert recipe uses Milo's sweet tea. "Milo’s was founded as a restaurant in 1946 by Milo and Bea Carlton after Milo returned from serving our country in World War II. Milo’s philosophy was simple: use high quality, natural ingredients, listen to your customers, and never sacrifice taste. More than 75 years later, Milo’s is still a family-owned business and also a Certified Women Owned Business with corporate headquarters in Bessemer, Alabama." If you can't find Milo's sweet tea in your area, use your favorite sweet tea (or make your own homemade sweet tea).

Serve this southern recipe for dessert with a dollop of whipped cream on top. Delicious!

Recipe Notes

  • If Milo's sweet tea is not available in your area, use your favorite sweet tea.
  • Fresh lemon juice is best, but you could use bottled lemon juice.
  • Zest the lemon using a microplane or a fine grater.

Here's how to  make it:

  1. Prepare ready-to-serve pie crust according to package instructions.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl, mix together sugar, flour, cornmeal and salt with a wooden spoon.
  3. Add eggs and egg yolks to the dry ingredients and beat at medium speed with an electric mixer until combined.
  4. Then add tea, butter and lemon juice and beat until combined. Pour into prepared crust.
  5. Bake until set, approximately 45 minutes. Let cool completely on a wire baking rack. Refrigerate until chilled.
  6. Dust pie with powdered sugar and lemon zest. Serve slice with a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
