To make this stovetop mac and cheese recipe you will need elbow macaroni, butter, flour, heavy cream, sharp cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese and cream cheese.

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni, cooked to al dente according to package directions
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 ounces cream cheese

  • Melt the butter in the pot you cooked the pasta in over medium-low heat. Add the flour and whisk until smooth. Slowly add the cream, whisking, until smooth. Cook, stirring, until thickened, about 2 minutes.
  • Stir in the cheddar, mozzarella and cream cheese. Season with salt and pepper. to taste. Stir until melted and combined. 
  • Add the cooked pasta and stir to coat.
