Flank steak is one of my favorite to-go dinner proteins. Flank steak can be marinated with so many flavors, cooks up quickly and is tender and juicy. Another favorite of mine is garlic. This garlic lover's grilled flank steak gets a double dose of garlic in the marinade and again right before grilling. This steak dinner is definitely worth grabbing a breath mint for!
For this simple grilled flank steak you will need a flank steak, olive oil, Tuscan or Italian seasoning, fresh garlic, a lemon for juicing and zesting, and garlic powder. The steak is marinated for about 30 minutes before being grilled to your desired doneness. Right before grilling it, however, you sprinkle it with garlic powder for that extra punch of garlic.
Here's some help on cooking times and doneness for flank steak:
- 3 minutes per side: rare (about 120 degrees F)
- 4 minutes per side: medium rare (about 125 to 133 degrees F)
- 5 - 6 minutes per side: medium (about 135 to 140 degrees F)
- 7 or more minutes: well done (Over 145 degrees F)
Serve this juicy marinated flank steak for dinner with your favorite side dishes. I served mine with Yukon gold potatoes, crispy Parmesan carrots and cucumber tomato salad.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes plus time to marinate
Cook Time: 10 to 15 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes plus time to marinate
Servings: 2 to 3
Ingredients
- 1 flank steak (about 1 1/2 pounds)
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1 teaspoon Tuscan seasoning blend or dried Italian seasoning
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- zest of 1 lemon
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
Here's how to make it:
- Season the flank steak with salt and pepper and put it into a shallow dish or food storage bag.
- Add the olive oil, seasoning blend, lemon zest, lemon juice and minced garlic. Marinate the steak at least 30 minutes. (My Tuscan seasoning blend has salt in it, so I just seasoned my flank steak with black pepper. Always check the ingredient list on your seasoning blends before adding more salt.)
- When ready to cook, heat the grill. Remove the steak from the marinade and sprinkle with the garlic powder. (You could use a grill pan if you don't have an outdoor grill.)
- Cook the steak, flipping a few times, until it reaches desired doneness. Let the steak rest about 5 minutes before slicing. Store any leftover steak in an airtight container in the fridge.
