Three ingredients? Yep! That's all you need to make soft, moist Amish butter cookies. These cookies mix up in one bowl so the prep work is a cinch. You can have a plateful of cookies ready to be enjoyed in less than 30 minutes.
These easy three-ingredient Amish butter cookies are made with butter (of course!), granulated sugar and all-purpose flour. You beat the softened butter and sugar together until it becomes pale yellow in color. Next, you stir in the flour until combined. Then, you roll the dough into balls and the flatten them on a cookie sheet. Bake the low-sodium cookies for 16 to 18 minutes (ovens vary) and cool before piling them on a plate.
Serve these soft cookies for dessert or as a quick, sweet snack anytime. They are simply irresistible!

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
- 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (you could use gluten-free 1:1 flour)
Here's how to make it:
- Beat the butter and sugar together until fluffy and butter has turned pale yellow. Add the flour and stir to combine. (You could stir a little extract into the batter. Vanilla extract, lemon extract and almond extract would add a beautiful flavor and aroma. For a gluten-free cookie, use gluten-free flour.)
- Roll the dough into balls and flatten them on a baking sheet. (The number of cookies will depend on how much batter you use for each cookie. You can use your fingers to flatten the cookies, or get fancy with a spoon or fork.)
- Bake in a preheated 325-degree F oven for about 16 to 18 minutes or until just set. Remove from the oven and cool a few minutes before removing from cookie sheet to cool completely. Store the cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresh.
