4-Ingredient Mustard & Brown Sugar Salmon Recipe Is Ready in Less Than 20 Minutes

Don’t you just love salmon? Salmon is so versatile – the fish is good grilled, baked, steamed, you name it. And it’s good sweet, salty, savory, spicy or cooked with little more than some olive oil.

Google salmon recipes – or just look at the wealth of 30Seconds salmon recipes – and it is one of those meal starters that you can just about blindly reach into your refrigerator, spice cabinet and/or pantry and whip up a wonderful dish. Salmon has plenty of health benefits, too! What’s not to love?

This easy salmon recipe came from Prevention Magazine years ago and is one of my favorite ways to fix salmon. The brown sugar rub gives it a little sweetness, and the cumin and mustard adds a savory touch that is perfect. It’s quick and easy to make, too! It works in the skillet on the stove top, or try it on cedar planks on the grill.

Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 7 minutes
Total Time: 17 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, optional (see note)
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper, optional (see note)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 4 salmon fillets (6 ounces each), skin removed and dried with a paper towel
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Here’s how to make it:

  1. Stir together the sugar, salt, pepper, cumin and mustard in a small bowl. Press the sugar mixture evenly onto the top surface of the fish.
  2. Heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook the fish, rub side down, for 4 minutes or until the rub dissolves and darkens slightly (being careful not to burn). Flip the fish and cook for 3 minutes or until the fish is opaque.

Note: I don’t add the salt or the pepper and it tastes great. Add it to your liking!
