Puff Pastry Apple Strudel Recipe: An Award-Winning Cook’s Easy Apple Strudel Recipe Anyone Can Make by Ann Marie Patitucci
My friend Craig Couture is an award-winning cook and I’m so proud of him. Some of his recipes seem like the recipes of an award-winning culinary pro. Admittedly, I’d never attempt to try them; sometimes I can barely make “regular” recipes well! Others, though, seem like regular folks like me could follow the recipes easily and make them – successfully!
This apple strudel recipe is a great example. It’s a quick and easy recipe with some ingredients that you may already have on hand. In addition, using the store bought puff pastry makes it easy to throw together for a delicious last-minute dessert (which could come in handy this holiday season!).

Ingredients
- 2 Granny Smith apples, sliced and peeled
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 1 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup sugar plus 3 tablespoons
- 2 tablespoons cold butter, cut into small pieces
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- all-purpose flour, for rolling the pastry
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry
Here's how to make it:
- Toss apples with lemon juice, then add the raisins, sugar and cold butter.
- Roll the puff pastry with flour to 1/8-inch thick.
- Spread the apple mixture over the bottom half of the puff pastry square, leaving an inch on the edge. Fold the top half over mixture and pinch together.
- Brush the whole strudel with melted butter then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Make diagonal slits across the top of the strudel. Place onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Bake in a preheated 375-degree F oven for 40 minutes, rotating at 20 minutes. Let cool slightly before serving.
