Are your baskets overflowing with fresh apples? Well, it is fall and that means apple season! Use a few of those fresh, tart, juicy apples in this easy apple turnover recipe. The turnovers are simple to prepare and melt in your mouth with sweet, apple goodness!
To make this fruit turnover recipe you only need six simple ingredients. Here is your short shopping list: fresh apples (check out the health benefits of apples), granulated sugar, flour, ground cinnamon, a box of puff pastry (or make homemade puff pastry) and butter. That's it! With about 10 minutes of prep and 12 to 15 minutes in the oven (ovens vary), you'll have a sweet apple turnover to sink your teeth into.
You could make a simple glaze to drizzle on top to make these even more sweet and delicious. Here's how to make a basic powdered sugar glaze.
Serve the apple turnovers warm for breakfast or with ice cream for dessert. The fall-inspired turnovers are also a delicious sweet snack any time during the day. They would also be delicious as part of a brunch spread.

Cook Time: 12 to 15 minutes
Total Time: 22 to 25 minutes
Servings: 8
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 4 cups peeled, chopped apples
- 17.3 ounces (1 box) frozen puff pastry, thawed
Topping
- 3 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Here's how to make it:
- Combine the sugar, flour and cinnamon in a bowl. Add the apples and mix well.
- Lay the puff pastry on a work surface and roll out to a 12-inch square. Cut into four squares. Repeat with the remaining sheet of puff pastry.
- Divide the apple mixture between the squares. Fold over to make a triangle and press the edges to seal. Place in a baking sheet. (For easier cleanup you can cover the baking sheet with parchment paper.)
- Combine the butter, sugar and cinnamon. Brush the mixture over the tops of the turnovers.
- Bake in a preheated 400-degree F oven for about 12 to 14 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm or at room temperature. Store any leftover turnovers in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat as desired.
