It's time to give tartar sauce a much-needed break. Marie rose sauce is a British condiment that was made popular by British celebrity chef Fanny Cradock in the 1960s. The mayonnaise-based sauce is typically served with shrimp, but is delicious with crab and fish as well. The creamy pink sauce could also be used as a sandwich spread or a dipping sauce for chicken nuggets, french fries or vegetables.
To make this creamy Marie Rose sauce recipe, you only need four simple ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen: mayonnaise, ketchup, a lemon for juicing and Worcestershire sauce. The mayonnaise and ketchup are stirred together, then you add as much or as little fresh lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce as desired. I recommended starting with a few drops of Worcestershire sauce and a good squeeze of lemon, then tasting and adding more to the gluten-free sauce. You can always add more, but can't take it out.
Fresh lemon juice is best for any recipe, but you could use bottled lemon juice in a pinch. The creamy seafood sauce keeps well for up to a week in an airtight container in the fridge. If you need more sauce, simply double or triple the recipe. Whip up a bowl of this sauce the next time you cook shrimp, fish, clams, oysters or crab!
