Feel like having a fresh-baked snack? Or maybe a homemade cake? This easy applesauce snack cake recipe is the best of both worlds! This tasty snack cake recipe is moist, delicious and easy to make and bake. It is reminiscent of that vintage Snackin' Cake from Betty Crocker. Remember that? Snackin' cake was a box cake mix that was introduced by Betty Crocker in 1972. Unfortunately, it was discontinued in 2012. The mix was mixed, baked and served in the same pan and came in coconut pecan, banana walnut, chocolate almond, chocolate chip, applesauce raisin, chocolate fudge, spiced raisins, and dates with nuts.
While Betty is still keeping that cake mix away from us, we can enjoy this easy applesauce snackin' cake. Moist and full of apple flavor, this delicious applesauce snack cake dessert recipe requires only one bowl when mixing it up. Simple goodness! To make this applesauce cake recipe you will need all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, baking powder, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, allspice, applesauce, vegetable oil, an egg, and optional chopped nuts and powdered sugar.
Serve this apple cake for dessert with homemade whipped cream or ice cream, or as a sweet snack with a cup of tea, coffee or milk.

- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice

Here's how to make it:
- Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice in a bowl. Whisk to combine. (For a gluten-free cake, use gluten-free flour.)
- Add the applesauce, oil and eggs. Stir until just combined. (You could use cinnamon applesauce for even more flavor.)
- Fold in the nuts, if using.
- Pour the batter into a baking pan that's been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray or lined with parchment paper. (You can use an 8x8-inch baking pan, 9x9-inch baking pan or 10x8-inch baking pan. Note that the size you use will affect baking time.)
- Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Dust with powdered sugar when cool. Store the cake in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
