Moist Applesauce Snackin' Cake Recipe Is a One-Bowl Wonder

Feel like having a fresh-baked snack? Or maybe a homemade cake? This easy applesauce snack cake recipe is the best of both worlds! This tasty snack cake recipe is moist, delicious and easy to make and bake. It is reminiscent of that vintage Snackin' Cake from Betty Crocker. Remember that? Snackin' cake was a box cake mix that was introduced by Betty Crocker in 1972. Unfortunately, it was discontinued in 2012. The mix was mixed, baked and served in the same pan and came in coconut pecan, banana walnut, chocolate almond, chocolate chip, applesauce raisin, chocolate fudge, spiced raisins, and dates with nuts.

While Betty is still keeping that cake mix away from us, we can enjoy this easy applesauce snackin' cake. Moist and full of apple flavor, this delicious applesauce snack cake dessert recipe requires only one bowl when mixing it up. Simple goodness! To make this applesauce cake recipe you will need all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, baking powder, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, allspice, applesauce, vegetable oil, an egg, and optional chopped nuts and powdered sugar.

Serve this apple cake for dessert with homemade whipped cream or ice cream, or as a sweet snack with a cup of tea, coffee or milk.

Recipe Notes

  • You could use cinnamon applesauce for even more flavor.
  • You can use an 8x8-inch baking pan or 9x9-inch baking pan. This will affect baking time a bit.

Here's how to make it:

  1. Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice in a bowl. Whisk to combine.
  2. Add the applesauce, oil and eggs. Stir until just combined.
  3. Fold in the nuts, if using.
  4. Pour the batter into a square baking pan that's been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray or lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Dust with powdered sugar when cool.

Granny Smith are always good choices for cooking. I agree with Elisa A. Schmitz 30Seconds that a Honeycrisp would be nice as well. You could definitely substitute gluten-free flour. Rosseyes
This sounds unbelievable delicious. 🍎

What a delicious recipe. You could use your preferred flour, Rosseyes (I use gluten-free flour). And you could experiment with different types of apples (I prefer Honeycrisp). And I always add walnuts to most snack cakes I make, haha! Donna John
