How to Make Sticky Rice: Cooking Glutinous Rice at Home Is Easy by 30Seconds Food
Glutinous rice, also known as sticky rice, is a staple across Asia. The opaque rice has a low amylose (a crystallized form of starch) content, which makes it sticky when cooked. And despite the name, glutinous rice is gluten-free.
- 1 cup glutinous (sweet) rice, rinsed well
Here's how to make it:
- Cover the rinsed rice with cold water and allow to sit for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- When ready to cook, drain the rice well. Pour it into a rice steamer basket or colander that's been lined with cheesecloth (if the holes are too large and rice falls through). Place the colander over a pot of boiling water, cover, and steam for 15 minutes.
- Uncover the rice and stir. Cover it back up and cook about 10 more minutes, or until rice is tender. Turn off the heat when rice is cooked completely and allow it to sit about 5 minutes. Serve.
