Gluten-free Sticky Rice Recipe: How to Make Restaurant-Quality Sticky Rice at Home by 30Seconds Food

Love that delicious rice they serve at so many Asian restaurants? You're not alone. Glutinous rice, also known as sticky rice, is a staple across Asia. The opaque rice has a low amylose (a crystallized form of starch) content, which makes it sticky when cooked. And despite the name, glutinous rice is gluten-free.
There's no need to go out to a restaurant for sticky rice when you can easily make it at home. Here's a simple sticky rice recipe that has one ingredient: rice.

Prep Time: 2 hours (or overnight) to soak rice
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes plus soaking time
Servings: 2 to 4
Ingredients
- 1 cup glutinous (sweet) rice, rinsed well
Here's how to make it:
- Cover the rinsed rice with cold water and allow to sit for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- When ready to cook, drain the rice well. Pour it into a rice steamer basket or colander that's been lined with cheesecloth (if the holes are too large and rice falls through). Place the colander over a pot of boiling water, cover, and steam for 15 minutes.
- Uncover the rice and stir. Cover it back up and cook about 10 more minutes, or until rice is tender. Turn off the heat when rice is cooked completely and allow it to sit about 5 minutes. Serve.
