Incredibly Moist Chocolate Banana Bread Recipe Is a Dessert Winner

What happens when banana bread meets chocolate? Make this easy chocolate banana bread recipe and then you tell me (hint: #happiness). This easy chocolate banana bread is incredibly moist. You'll almost think you're eating a rich, chocolate cake. So good.

To make this easy chocolate banana bread you will need flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, overripe bananas, butter, vegetable oil, brown sugar, vanilla extract, an egg and chocolate chips. The ingredients are mixed together and baked for about one hour. So quick and easy!

My vegan daughter took this dessert recipe and veganized it. Try her easy vegan chocolate banana bread (or muffins!) if you are vegan or would enjoy a gluten-free and dairy-free option.

Recipe Notes

  • For the moistest banana bread, do not overbake.
  • Use whatever kind of chocolate chips you like. Milk chocolate, semisweet chocolate, dark chocolate or dairy-free chocolate chips.
  • Store the banana bread in an airtight container to keep it fresh and moist, longer.

Here’s how you make it:

  1. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Stir to combine.
  2. In another bowl, add mashed banana, melted butter, oil, brown sugar, egg, vanilla and 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips. Stir to combine.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Stir until just combined.
  4. Pour mixture into a greased loaf pan. Top with remaining 1/4 cup chocolate chips.
  5. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 1 hour, or until toothpick comes out clean. Do not over bake! Cool about 10 minutes then remove from pan.

I used semisweet chocolate chips, but going to try dark chocolate when those 3 bananas on my counter get ripe enough. :-)

Bananas vary significantly in size, can you tell me how many cups of mashed bananas to use?
Donna John
JenniferColburn123 I never measure my bananas, and always use the max called for in a recipe. This one I used four for the loaf pictured. Just regular size bananas.

I was really looking forward to this but it didn't come out very good. I think it had too much oil and too much cocoa. Cocoa has a very strong bitter taste and the oil took away that nice bread/cake like texture. I'm sure this would have been awesome without the oil and cocoa. Just the chocolate chips in there would have been fine.

So sorry this did not turn out like you expected. We enjoy this recipe and love the deep, chocolate flavor. My daughter even created a vegan version of it: food: Vegan, Dairy-free & Gluten-free Chocolate Banana Bread Recipe: A Guilt-free Dessert Recipe mojorising73
