One of my all-time favorite restaurants, which unfortunately is now out of business, was Mason Jar in Houston, Texas. The iconic restaurant served an amazing creamy vinaigrette salad dressing which I drenched my salad with and also dunked their fabulous club sandwich in. They brought this creamy salad dressing to you in a small stainless steel gravy boat – and it was the perfect balance of tangy and sweet.
I talked the server into sharing the ingredients on one of my last visits to the restaurant. Now that they're out of business, I can share this deliciously different salad dressing recipe with you. To make this creamy vinaigrette recipe you will need red wine vinegar, canola oil, mayonnaise, fresh garlic, black pepper and powdered sugar. The ingredients are whirled in a blender and food processor until smooth and creamy.
Use this tangy, sweet low-sodium dressing on your salads, as a dressing for pasta salads or as a dip for fried appetizers (french fries!) or sandwiches. My favorite restaurant may be gone, but I still have a little piece of it left with this creamy concoction.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time 0 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 20 (makes about 2 cups)
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
- 1/4 cup canola oil
- 1 1/2 cups mayonnaise
- 3/4 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1/8 finely ground black pepper
- 4 tablespoons powdered sugar
Here’s how you make it:
- Put all ingredients in a blender or food processor. (If you don't have a blender or food processor, whisk the ingredients together in a mixing bowl.)
- Blend for 1 minute. Drizzle over your favorite salad greens or pasta salad. Store the salad dressing in an airtight container or salad dressing cruet. But more appropriate is using a mason jar for this delicious salad dressing.
