Adorable Mini Yarn Pumpkins: A Quick & Easy Fall Craft You'll Cherish for Years Crafts DIY Activities Holidays Fun With Dad
Full disclosure: I'm not the craftiest of people. I love a good craft, but when they get complicated or have too many steps, I just tend to buy all the parts and not put it together. When my sweet daughter Morgan sent me the idea for these cute yarn pumpkins, I was ready to give them a go. And as you can see, they are so cute!
These mini "pumpkins" are made from leftover rolls from your paper towels, wrapping paper or toilet paper and are so easy to make. I wrapped the yarn and created the pumpkins while I was watching TV or chatting with my friends.
Grab some leftover yarn or head to a craft store to pick up two colors, grab your rolls from recycling and you are ready to make these cute mini yarn "pumpkins" today. This is a fun project and activity to do with the kids or invite friends over for craft night.
You'll need:
- smaller blanket-weight yarn (about 1/4-inch in diameter)
- empty paper towels rolls or toilet paper rolls
- scissors
- twigs from trees or bushes for the stem
Here's how to make them:
- Cut the rolls into about 2-inch pieces (cut toilet paper rolls in half). They don't all need to be the same size if you want some a bit bigger than others.
- Cut about 1/4-inch slits into each side of the roll, about 1/3 inch apart. No need to measure here folks, just do your best.
- Press the cut ends inside the rolls.
- Cut a longer piece of yarn (2 to 4 yards). Hold your yarn and start to loop it around the roll to cover it. (Again, don't worry as you will loop lots of times so you don't have to cover the roll perfectly. The extra layers do that for you.)
- Continue to wrap the yarn around the roll, through the middle and around until the yarn mostly fills up the center of the roll. If you don't have enough yarn, just cut another piece and knot it together making sure the knot will fall on the inside of the roll. When finished, tuck the yarn into the middle of your pumpkin to secure it.
- Place a twig in the middle of the pumpkin.
- Repeat for as many as you would like to have!
