Storytelling is an important part of literacy development. Sequential stories like, The Story Book Knight by Helen and Thomas Docherty or familiar folk tales like Goldie Locks and the Three Bears or Little Red Riding Hood are a great way to help your child learn to tell stories.
- Read to your child and then ask them to retell the story.
- Model the retelling by acting out the adventures of the characters in the book.
- Encourage your child to tell the story to grandparents, friends, etc.
- Help them make up their own stories by creating interesting characters, settings and adventures.
