St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands: You Don't Have to Leave the United States to Find This Tropical Destination by Jan Mostrom

I recently visited the island of St. Thomas, which is part of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Now I am a huge fan! St. Thomas is one of three U.S. Virgin Islands (St. John and St. Croix being the other two) and it is beautiful. The mountainous terrain, tropical flowers and incredibly clear turquoise waters make this U.S. travel destination special.

The people of St. Thomas were so kind and helpful and like to start each interaction with a greeting of "Good Morning" or "Good Afternoon." We ate out a few times and each meal – many of them overlooking the beautiful sea – were delicious and fresh.

The island is close enough to St. John that you can either take the car ferry or passenger ferry and arrive a short 20 minutes later. And keep in mind that all of this takes place in a U.S. territory so no need for an international calling plan. One driving note: cars are shipped in from the mainland, but driving is on the opposite side from our usual. As long as I chanted "keep left" I did just fine!
