Is there any word that stirs up greater emotion than the word home? Thoughts of nostalgic traditions, delicious food and heartfelt memories often fill the soul at just the mention of the word.
Despite a very hard year in Uganda and many delays, The Gem Foundation, home for special needs orphans in Uganda, is HOME for many orphans who are spending their very first Christmas at Gem Village.
Our work at Gem Village continues as we now turn our focus to building two assisted living homes. In Uganda, by law, when a child reaches 18 years of age, they age out of a children’s home and must leave. Our desire is to provide a safe place for our oldest Gems as they become adults. We want these Gems to continue to grow and thrive independently!
Meet Bethany, who turned 16 years old in September. In less than two years Bethany will age out of our children’s home. We are the only family she knows and so she will have nowhere to turn, but to us.
