Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris Inspired My Daughter & Me (Now She Is Inspiring Women & Girls Across the Country) by Nicole DeAvilla

When I met Vice President Kamala Harris back in 2017, my daughter, Raquel Whiting, was interning for Senator Dianne Feinstein. When I introduced myself to Kamala as Raquel's mother, she stood back and gestured at herself and said, "This is your daughter's future."

Harris spoke engagingly to my daughter. She told her that she also got her start one summer working as an intern for Feinstein.

And yes, my daughter really was in the role of body guard for Feinstein along with her young colleague. Their main job was protecting the senators from getting caught up in endless conversations with adoring fans.

I believe that a lot of our daughters, with more hope and confidence than they had even yesterday, are proudly seeing themselves in Harris. She is a role model for young adults and children and yes, even for us.

Young women are forever stronger and more hopeful thanks to women like Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris.

May we move forward with great strength, peace and love in our hearts.
