Elizabeth Warren Supporters: Why This Dad Is Supporting Elizabeth Warren for President & Her Universal Child-care Plan by Mike Prochaska

I’d like to tell everyone why I am supporting Elizabeth Warren for president. Elizabeth Warren’s wealth tax would fund universal child care, universal Pre-K, raise wages for child-care workers, put $800 billion into public schools and cancel 95 percent of student debt.

I’m sure many 30Seconds community members can relate to what I'm about to say. Since my kids have been in school, I have worked at a daycare as a teacher’s assistant. I work for a company called Childcare Careers, which is a temp agency for child-care workers. The great part about it is that I make may own schedule, so if my kids are off of school, I just tell the agency I can’t work that day. It’s a win-win for me. I get to be a dad and go to work and explore the world with toddlers.

It’s funny being a man in a “woman’s world” sometimes because I always hear the same sh*t: Can’t mom stay home when the kids are sick? No, she’s the boss and sometimes she can’t stay home. I love going to work and I love being able to stay home with my kids. I totally understand the work-home life balance so many people struggle with. I feel bad for the staff who can’t stay home when their kids are sick. And that is why I think Elizabeth Warren’s universal child care idea is a great one.

Child care for kids between the ages of 1 and 5 is insanely expensive. I work in child care and cannot afford to send my own kids. Looking back now, it was a blessing because I got to spend every day with them. But what about families who can’t afford to have one family member stay home? What about families who spend more on child care than they do to send their kids to college?

Something needs to be done in this country to fix this issue. Now. And that is why I support Elizabeth Warren for president.
