Why Is This Happening to Me? Here's Why We Need to Change That Question So We Can Grow Mindfulness

When the going gets tough, we tend to ask ourselves, “Why is this happening to me?” Except that has a little bit of that woe-is-me attitude which is pretty unhelpful.

If instead of asking “Why is this happening to me?” we asked “How may I have contributed to this?” we might actually find something useful.

That shift in perspective puts us back in the driver’s seat, instead of it seeming like stuff happened to us and we have no control. From this vantage point, we may identify something about ourselves or the circumstances that lend themselves to:

  • Growth.
  • Opportunity.
  • Expansion.
  • Improvement.
  • Ways to prevent that very same thing from happening again in the future (assuming, of course, that whatever it is is in our control).

Open yourself to the possibility of examining what’s happened and drawing from it.

Learn more on shifting that perspective.
