Find Your Bliss: Here's How to Use Gratitude As a Tool to Recover Joy Mindfulness
We hear a lot about gratitude in the spiritual community. Gratitude helps us focus on the good. At times things may not appear positive, yet the outcome is positive. When we’re feeling stuck, without joy or purpose, gratitude can help.
For two weeks, keep a daily gratitude journal. Use whatever time of day works for you. Some use the morning to set the tone for their day. I write before bed, making a list of five to 10 things, or one thing on which I want to focus, exploring how and why it makes me feel grateful. It really doesn’t matter how you do it, only that you do.
After two weeks, go back and look at what you’ve written. Note anything that occurs more than once. For instance, I am so grateful for time spent with my granddaughter. It brings me such joy, and it appears in my journal often. It’s not just the time with her but how we spend that time – we play. I get to be silly and do things I loved doing when my children were babies – bath time, bedtime stories and tea parties. By making note of this on my list, I identified that allowing for more play in my life helps me stay positive.
The things that show up often are breadcrumbs on the path to your bliss.
