Cold and cough season is upon us. As a child, my mother and grandmother would make a "cough syrup" when I'd get sick. They would:
- chop up onions and garlic
- place in a glass jar
- put sugar on top
After a few hours it had a syrup texture, and they would give me 1 to 2 teaspoons a day. It tasted horrible, but it helped ease my cough and let me sleep at night. Onions help decrease coughing, and garlic is known to have antioxidant and even antibiotic properties (and it helps lower cholesterol).
